Transfer Scholarships

The University of Arkansas proudly offers transfer student scholarships each fall and spring semester to entering transfer students.

In-State Transfer Scholarships

Academic All-Star Transfer Student Scholarship

  • Annual award up to $10,000
  • Awarded to students named the "Academic All-Star" by their Arkansas two-year college
  • Renewable for up to five semesters with completion of 12 hours per semester and 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • No scholarship application required

Arkansas Transfer Achievement Scholarship

  • Annual award that matches tuition from the following UA System Two-Year Institutions: Batesville, Cossatot, Morrilton, Rich Mountain, Pulaski Tech, Hope-Texarkana, Phillips, and East Arkansas
  • Awarded to eligible Arkansas resident transfer students who have earned an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts in Teaching degree from a participating UA System Two-Year Institution, and who enroll in an on-campus degree program at the U of A (Fayetteville campus)
  • Renewable for up to 10 semesters with maintenance of good academic standing (2.00 cumulative GPA after each semester)

Chancellor's Transfer Scholarship

  • Annual award up to $3000 per year
  • Renewable for one additional year with completion of 24 hours and 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Awarded to top applicants from Arkansas two-year colleges

U of A Transfer Student Scholarship

  • Annual award up to $2000 per year
  • Renewable for one additional year with completion of 24 hours and 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Awarded to top candidates from the applicant pool

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship

  • Annual award up to $2500 per year
  • Renewable for one additional year with completion of 24 hours and 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Awarded to top applicants from two-year colleges who are members of Phi Theta Kappa
  • Provide documentation of membership to the Academic Scholarship Office

Advance Arkansas Scholarship

  • Annual award up to $4000 per year
  • Renewable for 2 years (3 years for programs requiring five years for completion) with 30 hours per year and 2.50 cumulative GPA
  • Awarded to top students in the applicant pool with financial need as represented on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Preference to first-generation college students

Transfer Student Advantage Scholarship

  • One-time award up to $3000
  • Awarded to top candidates from the applicant pool
  • Need will be considered but not required

Non-Resident Transfer Scholarships

New Arkansan Non-Resident Tuition Award Scholarship

  • Annual award of $15,200 – $17,000 per year based on 30 hours of enrollment
  • Automatically awarded (no application required) to transfer students from Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
    • 3.20+ GPA: Pays 90% of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
    • 3.00–3.19 GPA: Pays 80% of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
  • Renewable for 4 years (5 years for Architecture) with 24 hours per year and 2.75 GPA
  • To be competitive for additional merit-based scholarships, students should meet minimum eligibility for the Non-Resident Tuition Award

Extended States New Arkansan NRTA

  • Annual award of $9,700 – $15,200 per year based on 30 hours of enrollment
  • Automatically awarded (no application required) to transfer students from the rest of the country with a 3.20 or higher GPA
    • 3.50+ GPA: Pays 80% of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
    • 3.20–3.49 GPA: Pays 50% of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition
  • Renewable for 4 years (5 years for Architecture) with 24 hours per year and 2.75 GPA

U of A Transfer Student Scholarship

  • Annual award up to $2000 per year
  • Renewable for one additional year with completion of 24 hours and 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Awarded to top candidates from the applicant pool

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship

  • Annual award up to $2500 per year
  • Renewable for one additional year with completion of 24 hours and 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Awarded to top applicants who are Phi Theta Kappa members
  • Provide documentation of membership to the Academic Scholarship Office

Eligibility

To be considered for the University of Arkansas Transfer Scholarships, entering transfer students must have completed or be in the process of completing at least 24 transferable hours of college-level work from a regionally accredited institution (other than the U of A, Fayetteville). At least 12 transferable hours must be completed at the time of application.

Recipients must be U.S. citizens, legal residents, or foreign nationals permitted to study in the United States. Current U of A students are not eligible. Applicants or nominees may be awarded only one scholarship, and only for their first undergraduate degree.

Transfer Scholarship Application Checklist

Our primary communication will be by email. Use a personal email account you will keep after graduation or transfer. Adding this address ensures our messages reach you.

Apply for admission

You must apply for admission to apply for scholarships. Admission is not required to start the application. Submit admission applications by October 1 (for spring) or March 15 (for fall).

Submit official college transcripts

Send official transcripts by mail or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to: Office of Admissions, 232 Silas Hunt Hall, 1 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR 72701.

Check your New Student Center

About 48 hours after submitting your admission application, log in to your New Student Center to access your scholarship application. You’ll upload or paste your accomplishments, essay, and recommender information there.

Prepare supplemental materials

  • Activities & Awards: List your most important activities and honors.
  • Essay: Write one essay (max 600 words) responding to one of these prompts:
    • Identify an invention developed more than 100 years ago that still impacts life today. How has it affected you?
    • Identify an artist or innovator today who inspires you. Tell us why.
    • What does community service mean to you? How do you envision serving in the future?
  • Recommendation: Ask a professor for a letter of recommendation. They will receive an email with instructions. Letters must be submitted by the deadline.

Upload supplemental materials

Proofread your application carefully before submitting. You cannot edit after submission. You’ll receive a confirmation email the next day.

Selection Process

The Scholarship Review Committee evaluates each applicant’s academic record, résumé, essay, and recommendation. Decisions are emailed about 45 days after each deadline.
