American Anthropological Association

AAA Minority Dissertation Fellowship

Amount: $10,000, one time

Eligibility Criteria:An applicant must be:

  • a US citizen;
  • a member of an historically underrepresented ethnic minority group, including, but not limited to: African Americans, Alaskan Natives, American Indians or Native Americans, Asian Americans, Latino/as, Chicano/as, and Pacific Islanders;
  • enrolled in a full-time academic program leading to a doctoral degree in anthropology at the time of application;
  • admitted to degree candidacy before the dissertation fellowship is awarded;
  • a member of the American Anthropological Association. The dissertation proposal must be approved by the applicant's committee prior to application. Students of any subfield or specialty in anthropology will receive equal consideration.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Gates Millennium Scholarship

Amount: Varies depending on financial need; up to full tuition, fees, and room/board

Eligibility Criteria:

  • are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American;
  • are a citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the United States;
  • have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (un-weighted);
  • will be entering a U.S. accredited college or university as a full time, degree-seeking freshman in the fall;
  • have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in the community service, extracurricular or other activities;
  • meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. (Eligibility for Federal Pell Grant can only be determined through the submission of a Free Application for federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid Programs).

Postdoctoral Fellowship

Amount: $40,000

Eligibility Criteria:

  • All citizens or nationals of the United States regardless of race, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation (must have become a U.S. citizen by November 30, 2006)
  • Individuals with evidence of superior academic achievement (such as grade point average, class rank, honors or other designations)
  • Individuals committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level
  • Individuals awarded a Ph.D. or Sc.D. degree no earlier than December 1, 1999 and no later than November 30, 2006 in an eligible research-based field from a U.S. educational institution.

Government Finance Officers Association

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Currently a full- or part-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management).
  • Belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau): Black or African American, American Indian or Alaskan native, Asian native, Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by academic advisor, department chair (undergraduate students), or dean of the graduate program (graduate students).
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada are not eligible to apply.

Education and Leadership Development Program

Amount: up to $7,200

Eligibility Criteria:* The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $7,200 annually to underserved high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice. * You must be a U.S. citizen in order to qualify for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Award. * The application package must include a letter of recommendation and an official transcript (with raised seal). * In addition, all applicants are required to take either the Standardized Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) and submit their scores.
