University-wide Current Student Scholarships

The deadline for submitting online application materials for the University-Wide Current Student Scholarship program has been extended till Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 5:00 pm. If you are experiencing technical problems, please email Garrick D. Hildebrand, ghildeb@uark.edu, before the deadline.

The Office of Academic Scholarships manages a "university-wide" scholarship competition, meaning that current UA undergraduate students from any academic discipline are eligible to apply. Students must have completed at least one fall semester. The scholarship competition seeks students with a high level of academic achievement coupled with leadership qualities, financial need, or who have achieved academic success despite significant adversity.

Academic achievement is first gauged by a high university GPA then by other indicators of achievement such as outstanding undergraduate research. Our application requires one essay, a current resumé, and a letter of recommendation. The final application deadline is March 2nd. Applicants will be notified regarding final decisions starting May 1st. Scholarships will be awarded for the following fall and spring terms.

Before continuing to the online application

  1. Add ghildeb@uark.edu to your email address book, as some e-mail servers will block this address.
  2. Please have prepared a letter of recommendation. The recommendation must be from a faculty member, teaching assistant, or academic advisor from the University of Arkansas. Letters from individuals that do not meet this requirement will not be considered as part of your application packet.
  3. Prepare a current resumé that includes out-of-classroom activities that you have participated in during your college career, demonstrating contributions to the University of Arkansas and northwest Arkansas communities. Tips for Creating a Resumé
  4. Compose an essay (2-page max) on the following topic:
Eleanor Roosevelt once said “One thing life has taught me: if you are interested, you never have to look for new interests. They come to you. When you are genuinely interested in one thing, it will always lead to something else.” What interests have come to you while at the University of Arkansas and how will they carry with you after graduation?
  5. Make sure the essay and resumé are word documents or rich text format (.doc, .docx, .rtf) and less than or equal to 60 kb each.
  6. Continue to Online Application
